CLEANING YOUR  HARD FLOORING.

Hardwood flooring might be the most expensive choice but it is most definitely the best looking choice, and in the end it worth every penny being spent on.

Hardwood floors are timeless.  They are always beautiful to look at year after year after year. They never go out of style, too.   Because hardwood floors are natural, they bring this natural ambiance into you home, which is quite different from factory made flooring.  Many people don’t see it, but hardwood floors may add value to the house.  Also, hardwood floors do really sound better.

Another practical value of hardwood floors is the fact that it is easy to clean. The main threats to hardwood floors are grit, sand and dirt.  These are abrasive materials and act like sandpaper on your floor's finish.  These may results in dents and scratches, and over time might result to general dulling. To keep your hardwood floors clean, shiny and looking new, here are a few tips you would like to  follow:

VERY IMPORTANT

The simplest way to clean a hardwood floor is first !! sweeping it then damp mop it  with warm water & little but
Just a little dish-washing  liquid .your floors will always look clean , most important do not use wax !!  I repeat
No wax to be used  , if you use wax even once then you can forget about recoating  your floors with polyurethane
Again, for the reason that nothing  sticks on wax but wax yet more to come”  the worse thing is that the floor will
Lock”  the dirt in which will force you to use wax over and over again. Then our idea about maintenance  free
Is no longer in effect. So remember , you can sweep the floors few times a week but damp mop it only once a month
If necessary ,  make sure the areas you work on  are always dry before sweeping,

Rugs and floor mats are very useful especially if you have hardwood flooring.  Place them by your home's entrances. These will help trap grit, sand and dirt.  Trapping them before entering the home might help prevent damage.

Accidents do happen.  Water, beverages, soda, milk can spill all over the hardwood floor.  Wipe away these spills promptly.

It’s perfectly safe to use a vacuum cleaner to clear hardwood floors but always use a brush attachment.

Aside from sweeping and vacuuming the hardwood floor, you can also clean the hardwood floor using a mop.  You can clean hardwood floor using a damp mop.  But be sure to use a neutral pH floor cleaner.  Most hardwood floors are sealed with polyurethane. As long as your floor is properly sealed, a damp mop won't damage the wood.  And if you are looking a cleaning solution, one of the easiest homemade wood cleaners is a mixture of 1/2 cup white vinegar to 1 gallon of warm water. Dip a sponge mop in the floor cleaning solution, and squeeze it several times until the mop is almost dry. For spot cleaning you can mix equal parts linseed oil and vinegar to wipe the floor.  Buff it with a rag.   Some people add a few drops of oil of clove for wonderful smell.

Another tried and tested solution for cleaning wood floors is tea.  Brew 10 tea bags to 1/2 gallon of water. Let the mixture steep for a few minutes. Like vinegar and water solution, use a sponge mop dampened with the mixture and wipe dry afterwards.

With hardwood floors baby product are not only for babies.  Baby oil works best on a soft cloth to wipe and oil small areas.  Buff and rub the oil until no excess comes to the cloth. Baby shampoo works best, too.  Add 2 tablespoons of baby shampoo to 1 gallon of warm water. Again use a sponge mop that has been squeezed to the point of being almost dry before mopping the floor. Wipe dry the floor after mopping with a rag or old towel to soak up any excess water.

Dents on the hardwood floor will occur naturally over time.  It is part of the aging process of wood.  This helps build character. However, if the floors become too scratched up or ‘dented’, you can always have them sanded and refinished.

These simple rules are very easy to follow.  And by following them you and your hardwood floors should have many happy years together. A well-maintained hardwood floor can definitely last a lifetime.
